Shrinky Dink Bracelet- The Perfect Mother’s Day Craft!

This works fine if you are a paper crafter who can stamp with archival inks, or you have a great selection of permanent coloured pens, but your average crafter does not. On top of creating perfect personalised embellishments, you’ll also discover that the mysterious shrinking process provokes childlike delight every time, whilst producing elegant and sophisticated results! There are lots of ways to shape and add designs to shrink plastic, including die-cutting, hand-drawing and stamping. If you get a sheet without any texture, you can either rough it with sandpaper to let you colour with pencils, or use permanent markers to apply colour to the clear, smooth surface. Mother’s Day Craft Directed Drawing

I created a marble composition notebook too. It’s a fun choice for back-to-school workshops as it is so easy to install and comes in fun colors. I decided that keychains are the perfect back to school craft so that’s what I did! The plastic will twist and turn all different ways but once you’ve properly melted it all, it should lay mostly flat.

With the circle selected and the lock icon closed, change the size to .75” to make the outer edge of the hole. To add the image of the sunflower to your canvas, select the image in the preview area, then select "Add to Canvas." My designs are rather simple, but I still like to select the “Complex” option to make sure to preserve the colors.

When you stick polystyrene in the oven, the heat causes the polymer chains to return to their most stable, random configuration — shrinking back down into a smaller but thicker piece of plastic. The polystyrene sheets are created through a process called extrusion — the material is heated to the melting point, then forced through a die to give it its shape. Despite how awesome they look when they curl and shrink in the oven, there’s no magic involved. Clear plastic containers can be coloured on using permanent markers or coloured pencils, while frosted plastic offers a different aesthetic. Opt for containers that offer a larger, flatter canvas for your Shrinky Dinks. Some containers, such as those for berries or sushi, may have limited flat plastic, making it challenging to draw or trace designs. When choosing a plastic container to make shrinky dinks, it’s important to select one that is safe and will produce the desired results.

We printed out a couple favorite photos of my daughter with her dad (and one of her and me!) on the shrink film. In the image below, the baking was complete, but the handprint was not flat. You can color in your design with colored pencils, permanent markers, or acrylic paint. You can find an image of your favorite cartoon character and print it out to trace.

If you’re using a baking sheet/cookie sheet, you might want to cover it with foil or parchment paper before baking. The parchment will keep them flat shrinky dink crafts while they bake. Lay your cut-out pieces face down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. The plastic sheets shrink to nearly one third of their original size while keeping all the original colors and designs intact.
